Volo Restaurant and Wine Bar

Last night my sister and I had a lovely dinner with an old friend, Leslye. Leslye used to baby sit my sister and I when we were younger and while we have kept in touch over the years, we have not seen her for a long time. The 3 of us spent the evening catching up, reminiscing about old times, and eating good food (wine drinking was also included in the evening's activities).

We ate at this great Roscoe Village wine bar, Volo. Volo specializes in New American small plate dishes, but also serves entrée size plates. Dinners are priced from $7-$18 in menu categories such as Start, Pizza, Cheese, and Dessert. They also have wine flights that change with the season and plenty of wines by the glass.

We chose to do the small plates, which allowed us to share and taste about 6 plates and 2 desserts. The food was delicious and I even had my first taste of mussels. Thanks Leslye for ordering and making me try them. I think my favorite dish though was the BMG (bacon, mushroom and goat cheese) flatbread pizza; it was very tasty. I highly recommend trying the flatbread if you dine there. We also each had a wine flight which I really enjoyed as well. Flights of wine are wonderful, as they allow you to taste 3 wines you might not choose off the menu.

All in all, the evening was blast. If you are looking for a new restaurant to try in the city, I definitely recommend Volo. Rumor has it they have a great outdoor patio, which we didn’t get to enjoy because the weather was not very cooperative.
