Cars 2

June 24th, 2011 was a big day in the Hunt household...the day Cars 2 came to theaters! We had been anticipating the release for months and Ethan couldn't stop talking about going to see the movie...his first! My type A personality had me researching ticket purchases for a couple of weeks in anticipation of a sold out show. I didn't want to disappoint my little man after months of preparation for his first time in the theater. Plus, we had a couple additional guests with us for the big day...nanny, papa, and Auntie Kristi would join us! They were probably thinking they might as well see it in the theater because they would be subjected to watching the movie a million times, as they were with the first Cars. Tow Mater and Lightning McQueen have become household names!
Henry was just excited about the movie as Ethan was, even though he would be staying home with the sitter. For him, it meant lots of new toys to get his precious little hands on. The boys enjoyed a pre movie beverage on the stairs, squealing with delight about Ethan's evening out!
Popcorn...check, soda...check, licorice...check! A full theater...not so much! My countless hours of worrying about a sold out show were put to rest when we arrived to the 4:45 show a half hour early and there were plenty of seats available!

After about 15 minutes of previews, the show was finally ready to begin! Ethan did pretty well throughout the entire movie. We had to take a couple of potty breaks and the last 20 minutes were a little restless, but all in all, the experience couldn't have been better. The movie...maybe! It was alright; definitely a little advanced, plot wise, for a 3 year old and a little dark, but Ethan loved all the racing and the never ending presence of Mater. Cars 2 definitely lost the innocence the original Cars possessed, but we had fun!

A little post show ride!

After the movie and dinner, we headed back to our house for a little dessert (and a few new Cars...as if we needed anymore around the house!)
I attempted to make these cupcakes (with Shannon's help, of course). They turned out alright, but definitely not as cute as the picture. I was a little over zealous in my baking abilities, trying to use a homemade cake and icing recipe from a girl I work with. The homemade icing didn't turn out too well with the red food coloring (who knew red dye could make icing taste so bad?) so I resorted to store bought icing.
Regardless, Ethan loved them! So, our first trip to the movie theater was a huge success. Ethan was on cloud nine for days; which in turn creates a delightful mood around our house. The adults had a pretty good time, too!
