As of last Monday, we are officially owners of our new house in Glen Ellyn (look for another post on that topic soon). We have not moved in yet, as a matter of fact, we don't technically have possession because we agreed to rent back to the sellers until this Wednesday. For the past couple of weeks, I have spent a lot of time at the paint store in Crystal Lake looking through color wheels in order to find some nice colors to paint every room in our house. Yes, we have decided to paint every single room and all in one weekend! Thank goodness we have lots of help!
Back to the topic at hand...the kitchen! I am really struggling to find a color that will look decent with the counter tops. Yes, you are seeing correctly...they are blue! Yes, blue Corian. While I would love to replace them with a nice slab of black granite or Silestone, our budget just does not allow for that at this time so I have to live with the blue counter tops. I am looking for some design help out there from all our creative readers. What color do you think the walls should be? The only stipulation I have is that they are not yellow. Would you go with a more grayish tone or something more taupe? Tan? The cabinets will remain white and we will eventually add subway tiles for the back splash. Any thoughts or suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated; I am seriously stumped!
Hope everyone is enjoying this nice hot weather we were asking for 2 weeks ago! More to come in the upcoming days!

Here's a wild suggestion: Depending on how large the room is, maybe paint it a dark blue! Instead of fighting the countertops, make it look like you picked that color (which really isn't that bad, by the way, just too French country w/ the yellow). Benjamin Moore has an awesome navy color (Mrs. B used it in Bill's office and PB also featured it). Then the countertops will blend w/ the walls an not stick out like they would with a high contrast color(i.e. gray or tan). Also, stainless steel accents would looks awesome against the blue (in my opinion). Con: might make the room look smaller and/or make you feel like you are cooking in a cave.
Oh my gosh......you HAVE to send this to Katie Bower (another blog I found through TYH). She will photo shop 3 different suggestions for you for FREE! It will be so much easier to see the options before having to pick up the paint brush! Believe me....I have painted the kitchen 4 times in an effort to try to match nasty blue floors, and am still not 100% happy! Here is the link.....

Without seeing what Katie would suggest, I would probably vote for a very light silverish color with maybe a hint of blue to tie it together. btw, I also love the look of the white subway tiles as back splash......maybe some day, but for now, I'll keep dreaming!! good luck!
I think taupe would look nice with both the blue counters and the white cabinets. Then you can get some window treatments to tie in the blue. When we remodeled, we repainted every room in our house. It was a lot of work, but completely worth it - one big mess vs. lots of big messes!
